7.3 Excursion Fees
Throughout the year, various excursions will be available for students, some of which form an essential component of the curriculum. Some of these excursions will include costs, such as travel (if not on a Farrer bus), accommodation, food, and entry fees.
These costs are payable by parents, so Farrer strives to keep the costs to a minimum.
The ODAS events in the last week of term can be a significant cost, particularly the Year 9 Southern Tour to Tasmania. For these events, an initial non-refundable deposit will be charged and the balance of fees are payable throughout the year. When booking these excursions Farrer must commit to paying fixed costs such as travel and accommodation and these fees are usually non-refundable - hence the initial non-refundable deposit for some excursions.
For larger excursions, in the event a student is unable to attend, due to sickness for example, a partial refund will be considered once all costs for the excursion have been paid and if there are funds leftover. Students sent home from an excursion for misbehaviour will receive no refund and parents will meet any additional travel costs incurred.
Excursion fees, as part of the students' education, do not attract GST for all components except for food, to which GST must be applied.
Note that as food for Boarding Students has been paid for in their Boarding Fees, Boarding students are not charged for the food component of excursion costs.
