Year 11 Cert Iii Agriculture Ai Program
During Weeks 3 & 4 this term, the Year 11 Certificate III Agriculture Beef class have been involved in the planning and running of the Farrer Angus Herd AI Program.
Students were involved in giving all the cows a booster of Pestiguard and Multimin before the start of the program. They then were involved in all the aspects required to run a commercial Artificial Insemination program. The students selected the AI sires to be used, Tehama Patriach, Pine View Vezina J166 & Stokman Solution S329, they then determined which females would be joined to each individual sire.
Students were then involved in the fixed time AI program, inserting CIDRs, giving hormone injections and monitoring the cows for heat.
The cows were then AI’s by Geoff Steinbeck of Xcel Genetics. We thank him for his time with the students explaining how the AI process occurs.
Mr Peeters & Mr Garnsey also brought out their Year 9 & 10 Agriculture classes to view part of the AI process.
Many thanks to the Farm staff for all their assistance in organising the program and the Refectory staff for all the amazing food that kept the students going during the long days of the AI program.
