Year 11 & 12 Farrer Angus Stud
It has been a busy start to the year for the Year 11 & Year 12 Certificate III Agriculture students in the Farrer Angus stud.
Students have been involved in the following activities:
Structural Assessment - Jim Green came to Farrer to structurally assess all the T bulls and heifers. This data is available to our clients for the bulls that will be offered at our Annual Bull sale on the 26th June.
TACE Ultrasound Scanning - Roger Evans from Bovine Scanning Services Pty Ltd ultrasound all the T bulls & Heifers. This information has been sent to Angus Australia and assists us in provided accurate EBVs for our bulls that clients can use to determine which animals suit their breeding program the best.
Pregnancy Scanning HBR Cows - Robert Ferris, Australian Livestock Scanning Services conducted the pregnancy scanning of the HBR cows. The students were extremely happy with the results with 92% of the cows pregnant and a 68% success to the fixed time AI program.
Weaning of U calves - Year 11 students, were involved in the weaning of the U calves, collection of their 200 day weights and transporting the weaners back to Farrer.
Freeze Branding T bulls & heifers - Alex Steinbeck, Steinbeck Freeze Branding, freeze branded all T bulls & heifers to provide permanent identification for all animals.
