Stan Jones Regional Tennis Final
Farrer’s 1st IV Tennis Team travelled to Guyra to play Guyra Central School for the Stan Jones Tennis Regional Title on the 13th June. We
started with doubles, our 1 & 2 combo taking on Guyra’s 3 & 4 and getting a comfortable 6-0 lead. Our 3 & 4 combo playing the
formidable Purvis brothers combo for Guyra’s 1 & 2 pairing. Myles and Curtis lost that match admirably, coming back towards the end to
keep it to a close 7-5 win to Guyra.
We then played singles. Curtis Parkinson coming back quickly with a 6-0 win. He was followed by Myles Manning who earned the same result.
Will Penberthy next, also with an impressive 6-0 win. Sam Savovski had the challenge of Harry Purvis and managed to win 7-6 in an epic
match, keeping a level head during the tense match.
We then played the reverse doubles, our 1 & 2 combo playing Guyra’s 3 & 4, finishing quickly with a 6-0 win to Sam and Will. With the day won, the Guyra 1 & 2 lost some of their fighting energy, coming out more relaxed but an easier match for Sam and Will who won 6 -2.
A great day overall with Farrer winning the day 7 sets to 1. Farrer tennis team and some other Farrer boys trial for the North West Team, 6 spots. Our Opens boys played well and were selected for the team, ranks 2-5. They play in Bathurst in September.
