Staff in the Spotlight
Meet the man, the music, the magnificent Mr. Rick Mead!
Mr Rick Mead grew up in the beautiful Central West of NSW, where he attended Orange East Public School and Canobolas High School. From a young age, he was immersed in music, playing in school bands, the Orange City Industrial Brass Band, and local musical society productions. Whether it was playing the trombone or acing his piano exams, music was always a huge part of his life!
Before he found his way to teaching, Mr Mead worked on orchards, picking apples, cherries, and even working on a piggery (talk about a varied skill set!). After finishing his HSC, he moved to Sydney to study Music Education at the NSW State Conservatorium of Music. His dream? To become a music teacher and share his passion for music with others.
Mr Mead came to Farrer as part of a cadetship with the Department of Education in 1990—and, yes, he’s been here ever since! His favourite part of teaching is seeing students share his love for music, especially working with senior students to help them achieve their best in the HSC.
A big fan of jazz (he sneaks it in wherever he can!), when he’s not busting out a tune, you’ll find Mr Mead in his garden or building Star Wars Lego.
Mr. Mead is proud to be married to his wonderful wife, and have three beautiful daughters and two lovely granddaughters. He’s always up
for a holiday, and when it comes to footy, he’s a loyal supporter of the mighty Roosters!
And here's a little musical joke from Mr Mead:
Why is Tchaikovsky’s music always played at a fast tempo?
Because he’s Russian!
