Sky Story Symposium
During Week 5, a group of 10 Indigenous students from Farrer had the opportunity to participate in the ‘Sky Story Symposium’ held at Narrabeen Sport and Rec Centre. This program aims to foster connections among Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students from selective high schools and opportunity classes.
The Sky Story Symposium is a 3-day camp that brought together more than 70 students from 18 schools in NSW. During this camp, the students had the chance to meet and learn from Elders and other mentors. They also engaged in various cultural activities and explored exciting post-school opportunities.
The activities offered at the symposium included weaving, kayaking, bush walking, art, dance, and damper making. In the evening sessions, the students had the privilege of listening to a talk by local Tamworth Elder Uncle Len Waters about the stars. They were also inspired by a motivating and empowering speech delivered by another Tamworth local, Dr Casey Sullivan.
