Farrer's First VII water Polo in Lambtom
Farrer’s First VII Water Polo team travelled to Lambton in Newcastle on Friday 4 April to contest the Water Polo State Knockout against the top team from nine regions across NSW. We took twelve players from Year 12 to Year 8 away, with Harry Bartholomew and Oli Jordison captaining the team. Having been expertly coached by Libby Magann again this season, the boys travelled away confident in the skills and teamwork they had developed in the leadup to the tournament.
They played four games, starting the day with two losses against the strongest two teams in our pool – Hunter Sports High and Balgowlah Boys. They rallied to finish with two big wins against Alstonville and Blaxland, which was an excellent way to finish the tournament and send off our seven year 12 students who have played their last water polo games for Farrer – Harry Bartholomew (c), Oli Jordison (c), Nick Driver, Darcy Hannaford, Fletcher Roll, Clancy Roll and Cruz Hamlin. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to progress through to the medal matches, but the boys played with skill, enthusiasm and a great attitude in every match.
A huge thanks to Libby for coaching the team, Toby McVey for his help with organisation and for driving the bus to Newcastle, the Fec for catering, Mark for having the pool prepped for training each morning and the parents who supported the team in Newcastle or by getting the boys to school for early morning training. It’s been a great season!
