Farrer’s 1st XV Wins the Waratah Shield

Farrer made history by winning the NSW All Schools State Championship and securing the Waratah Shield for the first time.

As CHS Champions, Farrer’s 1st XV faced Redfield College, the Catholic Champions Game 1, on Friday, 6th September. Despite their excitement, they knew it would be a tough challenge since Farrer has never claimed the Shield in our history. Having the early match was perfect as Farrer was the only team to have played the day before of the four division winners and had planned to avoid the heat and sun as much as possible. Under the careful and precision planning of Murph, Farrer prepared to play for history. After some brief words from coach Marshman in the sheds, Farrer stormed the field. They played their best first half of the year, dominating Redfield and taking a 22-0 lead at halftime. Though the heat took its toll on both teams in the second half, Farrer held strong. However, the ever silky Will Crompton went through the line almost untouched late in the half to take Farrer in securing a 29-0 victory and guarantee Farrer’s place in the All Schools State Grand Final.

In the final, Farrer faced Central Coast Grammar (CCG), a formidable team with a mix of size, pace, and skill. The match was a grueling test of endurance and determination. Frustrations flared under the heat, and Farrer briefly played with 14 men. However, they managed to hold CCG scoreless through the first half. After regrouping at halftime, Farrer returned to full strength and pressed forward. A brilliant attacking sequence led to a match-winning try by Oliver Jordison. Bailey Scott’s crucial late turnover in front of the Farrer posts secured the win, ensuring Farrer’s historic triumph in the Waratah Shield.
