Farrer First XI: Back-to-Back State Champions

Farrer First XI hockey team played Model Farms High School in the CHS Boys' knockout final. Both teams showcased strong skills and were serious contenders for the state championship title. In the first quarter, Farrer appeared a little nervous, with both sides vying for possession. Model Farms earned the first short corner, but Farrer’s goalkeeper, Hamish George, made a solid save. Farrer managed to secure their own attacking short corner with just two minutes remaining in the quarter, but couldn't quite sink the goal.

Farrer found their rhythm in the second quarter, successfully defending another short corner. A beautiful stream of team play and passing saw Matt Rodgers send a cracking ball from the left defence to Blake Scicluna further down the field. Blake controlled the ball skillfully and passed it to Chris Fox near the attacking circle. Foxy made no mistake, scoring the first goal and giving Farrer the lead.

In the third quarter, Farrer almost scored again when Jack Marshall sent an overhead pass to Blake in the circle. Blake's shot beat the keeper but was miraculously saved on the line by a Model Farms defender. Farrer then earned three consecutive short corners, with Jack Marshall converting the second one into a goal, extending the lead to 2-0 by the end of the third quarter, demonstrating their control over the game.

Early in the fourth quarter, Charlie Stone showed outstanding defence in a nail biting turnover. Shortly after, Model Farms earned a short corner and managed to score. With eight minutes left, Farrer responded with an attacking short corner, where Archie Clarke's drag flick found the back of the net for their third goal. Model Farms continued to fight hard, scoring their second goal with just three minutes remaining. Farrer’s defence held strong, and despite another attacking short corner opportunity by Will Judd, the game ended with a final score of 3-2 in Farrer's favour. These well-deserved champions have once again claimed the title of top school in the state second year in a row!
