Dougie the Official Wellbeing Dog

The Year 12 Class of 2024 has left a lasting and heartwarming legacy by gifting the school with the training course for a new member of the Farrer community—Douglas, affectionately known as Dougie who will become the official wellbeing dog at the school.

Dougie, a 7-month-old Groodle (Golden Retriever x Poodle), is no ordinary pup. Born in Guyra and joining the Farrer family on the 13th of July, Dougie has already made a big splash with his joyful personality and a heart full of love.

Dougie is set to become Farrer's official wellbeing dog, providing comfort and companionship to students across the school. This incredible initiative is part of a broader commitment by the 2024 cohort to foster a caring and inclusive environment at Farrer, and Dougie is already proving to be a natural fit for this role. His training in manners and obedience is well underway, and his progress has been exceptional!

When Dougie isn’t in training or spending time with the Farrer community, he’s busy being a much-loved part of his own family. Dougie loves playing with Beau (6) and Ned (4), the sons of his owner, along with his fur-sister Molly, a 13-year-old Labrador x Staffy. A playful and adventurous pup, Dougie has a special love for water, whether it’s a puddle, a pool, a dam, or the ocean, and he's never shy about diving right in. He's also quite the road trip companion, having accompanied his family on many trips where he's won the hearts of everyone he meets.

Dougie has grown a lot since arriving in July, going from a cuddly 14 kg to an impressive 25 kg, but despite his size, he remains as playful and gentle as ever. The Farrer community can’t wait to see him continue his training and develop into a fully-fledged wellbeing dog.

The Class of 2024’s gift of training Dougie as an official wellbeing dog is more than just a present—it’s an investment in the wellbeing of students. Dougie's presence will provide positive, meaningful and sustainable connection and he's sure to become a beloved figure at Farrer for years to come.

Thank you, Year 12 Class of 2024, for this extraordinary gift and to Dougie’s family for sharing him with us!
