Men's Health Week
The Student Wellbeing Committee celebrated Men's Health Week today at assembly with a talk by school captain Iva Haling. Iva spoke of the challenges that can come along with both physical and mental health for men and that sometimes men think that they always have to be stoic and resilient and that this means not asking for help when they need it.

Farrer Year 7 student Gideon McHugh represented Manilla Sundowners CWA Branch in the Namoi Group CWA Land Cookery Judging Day in March. He baked and decorated cupcakes in the theme Australian Native Animals in the junior section and was awarded first place.

Farrer students Sean Gander and Brae Hinchcliffe attended the Gunnedah Music Eisteddfod last weekend and came home with some great results.Sean had a three big days at the Gunnedah Music Eisteddfod. He has played 6 solos on the piano taking away the Primary Pianist Award and was one of the finalist in the Secondary pianist section. Brae performed two piano solos on Saturday and gained a placing in the the category "Popular Entertainment Piano Solo - 12 years & under"
The North West Open Boys Rugby Union side met in Bathurs
The North West Open Boys Rugby Union side met in Bathurst on Tuesday, May 14th for a 3 day Championship round. The team came out with Second in State which is a phenomenal achievement and a North West record for Rugby Union.

Farrer Opens Football team played Armidale Secondary College in the regional semi-final on Friday.The whole team played very well and placed a lot of continual pressure on Armidale’s goal.After 2 quick goals Farrer was up 2 nil at half time and then scored another in the second half, but also missed many other chances.Reagan Popplewell using his superior speed, scored all three goals for Farrer in the decisive win.

Year 12 Morale Boosting
Year 12 is a marathon, not a sprint! Over the last 2 weeks, the new Year 12 students participated in some morale boosting fun to help them to the finish line.
New Farrer Mural
Farrer Class of 2023 elected to install a mural artwork on the old boys museum wall, which will display the vibrant and diverse opportunities and experiences Farrer offers - with depictions of agriculture, sports ranging from cricket to soccer to rugby league and the supportive and inclusive culture felt by marching, carnivals and mateship.
Saying Farewell to Staff
On Thursday, Farrer formally farewelled four staff members; Mrs Gai Chambers, Mr John Drenkhahn , Mrs Angela Wilde and Mr John McAdam at a special surprise assembly. They will be sorely missed by the Farrer community and we wish them all the very best in the future endeavours.
SLAP Morning Tea
Today's SLAP welcome morning tea was a social event with delectable food for both staff and students. Our incoming Year 12 students can work with a mentor of their choice to construct a Senior Learning Action Plan through the SLAP programme.

Northern Schools Prime Steer Competition
After many months of preparation, eight Farrer students competed in the Northern Schools Prime Steer Competition, held over two days at the
Armidale Exhibition Centre. Students participated in a Junior Judging activity, showed 5 steers across two classes and entered into Stage 4
and Stage 5 Paraders competitions.
U16s Rugby League
On Wednesday 1st of November the under 16’s rugby league team competed in the Jamie Lyon Killa 9’s Finals here at school. The competition consisted of the best high schools from across the Greater Northern Region spanning from Glen Innes to Singleton.
2023 ICAS English Competition
Farrer’s Henry Chatfield and Ethan Ford have the makings of extraordinary literary gentlemen.Both have excelled in the 2023 ICAS English Competition. Henry placed in the top three percent in the State, whilst Ethan placed in the top seven percent.
NWSSA Open Water Polo

Farrer Food Tech Students Have Been Cooking Up A Storm
Year 10 cooked dumplings last Friday. They made the filling, hand rolled each dumpling using a variety of techniques, and then cooked the dumplings using two different methods, pan frying and boiling.

Jack Marshall - NSW U16 Hockey
In mid-July, Farrer student Jack Marshall was selected in the NSW U16 All Schools Hockey Team and played in the Schools Sport Australia U16 Hockey Nationals in Adelaide. Jack then travelled to Hobart to play in the NSW U18 Blues Team at the Australian U18 Hockey Nationals.
2023 Junior Sport Awards
The 2023 Junior Sport Awards were held in the Michael Kilborn Centre last Friday. The awards celebrated our junior sporting teams and their achievements this year.
Farrer 2023 Melbourne Cup Fundraiser
The atmosphere was set for an entertaining afternoon. Students and staff enjoyed hot chips at lunch time coupled with live entertainment by TAS teacher Mr Stephen Druce and student Bayley Cork before watching the Main "Farrer" Melbourne Cup race.
Farrer 15s CHS Basketball
Last week, the Farrer 15’s CHS Basketball Team travelled to Sydney to play in the Top 8 Finals tournament. They had 3 close games on the first day, winning against Condell Park HS and losing to both Illawarra Sports HS and Endeavour Sports HS.
Year 7 White Baling
This week, Year 7 White Class had the opportunity to observe the baling of oaten and lucerne hay down on the school farm.

Year 9 Wool Science Sheering
This week, Year 9 Wool Science are learning to shear the Merino sheep with Mr Smith. This is a part of the practical component of the course alongside the breeding and stud management aspects. They also learn to throw fleeces, skirt and roll wool.
Inter-School Horse Extravaganza
The Inter-School Horse Extravaganza (ISHE) took place at the AELEC in Tamworth from the 13th to 16th of October. It is a massive event with
over 700 horses entered. Many volunteers are required to help the event run.

15’s CHS Basketball Report
In Term 3, the 15’s basketball team played in a gala day in Tamworth that involved Oxley High School, Armidale Secondary College, Peel High School and Tamworth High School. Farrer were undefeated on the day and advanced to the next round of the CHS knockout.

Farrer U15s Rugby League
The Farrer U15s capped off the perfect season when they remained unbeaten and claimed the Group 4 Junior Rugby League U15s Premiership following a triumphant victory over Gunnedah in the Grand Final on Saturday 9 September 2023.
