1st XI Cricket v Gunnedah HS
Farrer played Gunnedah High School in a thrilling Regional Quarter Final match on Tuesday, 29 October. Farrer’s 1st XI Cricket Team, led by captain Jordan Lewington, won the toss and chose to bat. A late pitch inspection then saw our match moved to Chaffey Oval and each innings reduced to 35 overs. A steady start from Matt Beattie and Mat Rodgers has Farrer well positioned at 0/105 at the 18 over drinks break. From this point on, the floodgates opened as Farrer accelerated the scoring rate.
Both Matt Beattie and Mat Rodgers were dismissed for 71 and 78 respectively. Blake Scicluna made an aggressive start before being caught in the deep for 38. It was at this stage that captain Jordan Lewington came to the crease, getting off the mark with a 6. With strong support from debutant Lachlan Mason, Lewington’s swashbuckling innings of 78 from approximately 30 balls helped Farrer post a total of 4/335 after 35 overs.
An early wicket to Blake Scicluna had Gunnedah in trouble, but resistance from their next partnership held strong. Some poor fielding did
not help the cause of restricting their total and dismissing Gunnedah cheaply, Gunnedah batted their 35 overs, scoring 151 in the process.
Our next match will be a regional semi-final away to Armidale Secondary College.
