Year 7 Enrolment
As Farrer is a selective day and boarding high school, the process for enrolment in Year 7 commences when your son is in Year 5.
The Application Process for Day & Boarding positions are different, students interested in applying for both must submit a separate Day
and Boarding application. Students local to Tamworth will not immediately be interviewed for boarding positions. They will only be
considered if there are places available after the first round of offers are complete.
Day Student Applications
Entry to Farrer as a Day Student is completed through the selective school’s placement test. Applications for enrolment in Year 7 in 2026 will open on 7th November 2024 and close on 21 February 2025. It is important to refer to the timeline of events as listed on the selective schools website under key dates.
Boarding Student Applications
Students seeking entry to Farrer as boarding students must apply directly to the school. Early applications are encouraged, as interviews
will begin in December 2024 for admission in 2026. It is important to note that boarding applicants DO NOT need to register for the NSW
Selective Schools Test.
Key Dates:
- Friday, 7 March 2025 – Final day to submit applications for first-round consideration.
- End of Term 1, 2025 – First-round offers released.
Applications received after this date will still be reviewed but offers will depend on availability.
Application Requirements:
To complete your application, you will need:
- Year 5 NAPLAN results (Year 3 results if available)
- Your two most recent school reports
- Any other relevant academic achievements or school awards
- A recent school photo
Students who apply will undergo an academic assessment, and those selected may be invited to an interview at Farrer in December. This interview provides an opportunity for the school to learn more about the student, including their interests and preparedness for boarding school life. The school carefully considers each applicant’s geographic location, particularly those from rural and remote areas, along with their academic achievements and overall readiness for a boarding experience. Based on this evaluation, a boarding position may be offered.
Successful applicants will receive their first-round offers by the end of Term 1 in Year 6.
