In Week 6, Year 7 HSIE students took to the streets of Tamworth to ask the question, “What makes Tamworth a liveable place?” Students approached people down the main street with surveys covering questions rating the importance of elements such as climate, town planning, infrastructure, accessibility of services and many more. Students were excellent ambassadors of the school and showed great courage approaching a mostly welcoming public.
The second part of the excursion took place up at the Oxley Lookout. Students were able to use skills learned in class this term to create a ‘field sketch’ and ‘precis map’ overlooking Tamworth. Thankfully for some (teachers included) artistic skills were not being tested. Rather, the ability to sketch, locate and place key physical features and areas onto a map. The data gathered on the excursion will be used to complete the Assessment Task this term.
