Our Sorry Day Assembly was held on 25th May with visitors from both Tamworth and Armidale DoE Offices, including Stella Lamb (Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer), Carol Greene, Russell Honnery and Eunice Blair.
Mekhi Rzadkowski (Year 8) read the introduction to Kevin Rudd’s famous speech and student Jacob Tait (Year 7) shared the story of his grandmother who was part of the Stolen Generation. Stella also shared stories of her life and that of her mother who was taken from her parents along with all of her siblings. It was a very emotional and memorable speech and the Farrer boys gave a standing ovation at the end. Inspiring!
National Sorry Day is an annual event, which has been held in Australia since 1998, to remember and commemorate the mistreatment of the country’s Indigenous population.
