Year 12 Leaders in the Making

On the first Tuesday back of Term 4, 2017, Year 12 were on the road to the Sport and Recreation Camp at Lake Keepit. They arrived just before lunch, quickly settled into their cabins, had some lunch and then rushed off to their first activity – The Team Relay. This activity taught Year 12 many things like teamwork, stamina and not to drink and eat so much before running!! At the conclusion of this activity, the teams had to build their own stretcher and return to camp whilst carrying a team member on their stretcher. Students then spent the afternoon doing ‘free time’ activities followed by a delicious dinner cooked by Paul O’Brien. On Tuesday evening, Mrs Levy ran a number of ‘Get to know you’ activities which not only put the boys out of their comfort zone, but also created a lot of laughs.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, students participated in some educational morning sessions which focused on topics like Mental Health, Relationships, Helping Your Mates and Study Tips. In the afternoons, students participated in outdoor activities such as The Giant Swing, Archery, Commando Course, Low Ropes Course and Mountain Biking. In the evenings, students learnt what it meant to be a leader and, from there, started to plan what they wanted to achieve as a year group in the next 12 months.

On Friday morning, the prefects were announced to the year group, followed by captain nominations and speeches. On arrival back at school, Captains, Vice Captains and House Captains were selected and announced to the school at a special Principal’s Assembly. Thank you to Miss Allen, Mr Colclough and Mr Jones for running a very successful camp.

See how it all went
