NSW U17’s Country Rugby Side

As result of playing with the Northern Inland rugby team in the Country and State Championships, which was held at Concorde Oval over the long weekend, Angus Windred and Ben Hall were selected in the NSW U17’s Country Rugby side. Angus and Ben travelled to Canberra last Friday, where they went into camp at the Australian Institute of Sport. On Friday evening, Lachlan Windred was called into the Country side and joined the team. The team had an intensive training session before going to Canberra’s GIO Stadium to watch the Country Opens team beat a regional Brumbies side. They also spectated a Super 15’s rugby match between the Brumbies and the Crusaders.

Our three students played against a strong U17’s Brumbies side on the Sunday. It was a very skilful encounter with Angus, Ben and Lachlan leading the way in both defence and attack. The Brumbies won the game 25-17. It was an excellent experience for the boys, who will undoubtedly bring back many skills to share with their team mates at school and in their weekend club.

During the school holiday these boys will be participating in the Sydney Academy of Sport three day camp at Narrabeen, with the rest of the Country teams, before they play in the annual City versus Country fixture. There is also an opportunity to play against an English side touring later in the year.
